Sydney InDesign 2017
Sydney InDesign 2017 was indeed an extremely impressive event, the exhibitors featured all the newest and finest Architectural and designer brands. The industry showcase was very creative and entirely design orientated, one could definitely feel the talent in the air. The showrooms were interactive and absorbing spaces, where everybody was embracing it.
I felt I was in southern Europe on a summer’s day, fantastic atmosphere with beautiful creative products, and to top it all, the exhibitors provided the most delicious appetisers and small meals. From blocks of Parmesan cheese to pretzels and Paella, refreshments from Prosecco to Beer and all complimentary.
For those who wished to engage further, there were several interesting seminars from which to choose, they were split into two categories; LiveLife & WorkLife, to mention only a few – “Size and the City: Our developers have some explaining to do”; “Talking about your generation: Intergenerational Co-Habiting and Residential Design” and “Hot Enough to Hashtag: A+D in the Social Media world “.
The exhibitors were located in designated Districts: Waterloo, B2 (B2Studios and others), The Alex and The Venue (shared space), everything was well signed and easy to find, one couldn’t miss the pink logo which is one of the trend colours for 2017.
As it was my first time at InDesign I was not aware that there was Project People’s Choice Award. The brief was a keyword: “CLICK- It’s the power of instant connections”. It was difficult to select the best design project, not only because of the sheer quality of all the products but also because of the creative and dynamic style in which they were all displayed. The warm welcome extended by all the exhibitors was another characteristic which set this event apart from others. I will be revealing my favourite Project on my next blog.I will let you know at the end of this blog, which was the Project People’s Choice Award.
Danks Street is one of my favourite streets in Sydney, so having side-by-side designer dream hubs would be no surprise to anyone. Pure Concepts featuring their individual accessories and premium range of contemporary Italian collections, both internal and external furniture (Biblio Bathtub, Cover Freestanding Wardrobes, Wallpaper, Arclinea kitchens, etc), side to Abey Australia their cutting-edge sanitaryware and sink-ware quite unique in particular the Goccia Range and to Tongue N Groove Flooring.
To mention just a few interesting products which caught my attention: Made Pen- Mirror housing a fire blanket; Earp Bros –Barcelona range; Mafi+ Kebony by woods – Carving Kids II & cork tiles, Abey Australia –Private Wellness Collection (showerhead multifunction system), Goccia Range mixers, Lab Flus hobs; Winspear Group- Natural genius collection(Biscuit no.1+no.5); LightCo- Karman (Mek,Le Trulle,)Tala; Pure concepts- CEA range; Ecosmart- concrete outdoor fire table; Interface- Global Change modular carpet; Special Lights –Bover range (Dome90); thinkdzine- Gas burners blend into kitchen tops; NL Curator//DutchContemporary- Shoes(unitednude), ‘Objet d’art ‘(stigerwoods).
All of these activities took place over 2 days, in 4 Districts, hosted by 50 exhibitors – 6 of which were International Guests from Germany; Denmark; Hong Kong; Malaysia and USA) and complemented by 6 Seminars.
The winner of the Project: “CLICK- It’s the power of instant connections”, was ZIP WATER stand was enclosed by curtains of recycled nylon threads suspended from the ceiling down to ground level, undulating in the gentle breeze, it simulated falling water. Featuring one of their latest products “All-in-one” Celsius ARC combines instant filtered boiling, ice chilled and sparkling my type of tap.
The overall organisation was outstanding, the cherry on the top was the complimentary showroom hop-on/hop-off bus which was convenient and an innovative way of moving visitors efficiently to and from each District. Congratulations to The team at Indesign Media Asia Pacific.
